Bioparque Quillón is a developing project consisting of a non-profit, secular, apolitical, and non-judgmental institution whose work focuses on animals and their present and future welfare and conservation.
Its inception is due to the initiative of its Director, Mr. Cristián Anguita Geissbühler, and Mrs. Patricia Campos Lara, who, supported by Sociedad Agrícola y Forestal El Retiro Ltda., acquired the land in 2010 where the construction of Bioparque Quillón began, later giving physical existence to the Foundation for the Protection of Wildlife.
Subsequently, we have received the selfless participation of many volunteers who allowed and facilitated its implementation.
Bioparque Quillón is the first park in Chile where you can see large felines and many other animals without a barrier between them and the public, with the animals themselves determining the distance they wish to keep from visitors.
The first CITES animal housed by the Foundation is the lioness "Kimba" (Panthera leo), voluntarily surrendered by an anonymous circus, upon realizing she would be better here than in her cage—a significant milestone for animal life in circuses. This demonstrates that... "if you truly love something, let it go," which is not easy to do. We publicly highlight the love shown by this trainer, who was tamed by his lioness's affection.
The first donation made was the palm trees around the duck lagoon, provided by the Avendaño-Sáez Family from Bulnes in the winter of 2012.
